Freshman Admissions

Mount Zion College seeks to attract academically talented students who will succeed and thrive here and also contribute to the growth of the College’s community.

Our best indicator of how you will do at Mount Zion College is your performance in high school. When we review your high school transcript, we consider a variety of factors, including overall level of achievement, enrollment in honors and other courses, and individual academic strengths.

The Board of Admissions carefully reviews every application for undergraduate admission to decide whether to grant admission to Mount Zion College. The Board places primary emphasis on the strength of a student's secondary school record, determining whether minimum academic requirements have been satisfied. For most programs at the University, the minimum requirements for consideration include:

  • Minimum 60% in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics
  • Four years of English
  • Three years of mathematics
  • Three years of history and/or social science
  • Three years of science (with laboratory components)
  • Two years of a foreign/regional language

Students most competitive for admission will exceed these minimum requirements. The scores of required tests, teacher and counselor recommendations, and other personal qualifications as demonstrated by extracurricular activities are also carefully evaluated and weighed before decisions to offer admission are made. Your application essay is also significant, because it demonstrates what you think and how clearly you express yourself.

We also want to see what kind of citizen you have been in your high school community—what activities you participate in or after-school jobs you have held. We also look for extracurricular activities in which you have participated that indicate a match between your experiences or academic interests and the opportunities available at Mount Zion College.

You can join the college through entrance examinations conducted by the DOTE [Directorate of Technical Education] of the Government of Tamil Nadu. The entrance examinations are usually conducted in the months of April/May. The students are required to appear for entrance exams in three subjects: Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. The marks scored in the entrance exams are averaged with the score of the board exams [cut-off]. A cut-off of minimum 120 is mandatory to join the college.

Admission can also be obtained through the All India Joint Entrance Exam for Engineering and Medicine conducted in the month of April. For more information, please refer advertisements that appear in most national dailies during the months of December/January.

Admissions are also available under management quota. A minimum of 60% is required in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry for admission. Management seats are very limited, so please contact the college immediately.

See Freshman Requirements for detailed information about the eligibility criteria and other requirements.
